| The Charterhouse of San Bruno of Colonia |
Only people that have done such an experience can know how many utility and divine joy the solitude and the silent of the hermitage can bring to those who love them. Here, in fact, to strong men is allowed to gather and to rest with themselves. Here God gives to His “athletes” the desired rewards, that is the peace the world doesn’t know and the joy in the Holy Spirit. San Bruno In 1091, Bruno of Colonia, searching an oasis of peace where he could devote himself to the prayer, chose the wonderful mountains in the Calabrian Serre. Here, in the centuries–old Charterhouse, live the Carthusians, Bruno’s “sons”. Many people always came here to knock at the Monastery’s door, attracted by this place rich of cultural, historical and artistic memories and, above all, by the Carthusian monks’ life, proof of an important spiritual tradition. The history Bruno, born in Colonia around 1030, moved to Reims where he became Rector of the Cathedral School. In 1086, with 6 fellows, he went in the solitary valley of Chartreuse in order to dedicate himself only to God. Six years later, Urbano II, ancient pupil of Bruno, wanted him in Rome as Counsellor. But Bruno wished most of all the solitude, and he obtained to retire in the woods of the Serre. He died on 6 October 1101. Bruno’s testimony remains still actual and his “sons” pray every day for the salvation of the whole mankind. Museo della Certosa |
